Tucker Carlson blasts Fauci: ‘Dictator’ who ‘hasn’t been elected to anything’

Fox News host Tucker Carlson took Dr. Anthony Fauci, the administration’s top immunologist, to task during his program Tuesday for continuing to put a damper on any effort to open the country back up now that the coronavirus curve has been ‘flattened.’

Noting that Fauci appeared before a Senate committee Tuesday to discuss how and when to reopen the country, including businesses, schools, and workplaces, Carlson said the health adviser to President Donald Trump “left no doubts about how he feels about that question.”

“Opening up now, he said, after just two months of lockdowns, is a very risky, indeed a dangerous, prospect. Letting Americans work and learn once again could be a catastrophe, he said,” noted Carlson.

“And he wasn’t just referring to a handful of hotspots that have been hit especially hard. Entire states, Fauci said, likely need to remain closed.”

Fauci testified:

What I’ve expressed then and again, is my concern that if some areas city, states or what have you jump over those various checkpoints and prematurely open up without having the capability of being able to respond effectively and efficiently. My concern is that we will start to see little spikes that might turn into outbreaks.

“So just to be clear, Fauci was not simply talking about certain workers or even all workers staying at home for the foreseeable future. He implied that schools and colleges will be able to reopen only if there is a cure for this virus or a vaccine. He said that prospect was a bridge too far,” said Carlson. “In other words, no school until the coronavirus has been cured — stopped.”

That’s obviously not very realistic or even practical, given that our children’s primary education is paramount to their success in life. Also, what are parents with younger children who will eventually go back to work outside the home supposed to do? Most can’t quit their jobs to become full-time caretakers.

“Fauci says that children must stay home or countless people will die — that’s the message. And so I’m just going to ask a very simple question: How does he know this exactly? Is Tony Fauci right about the science? Do we have any particular reason to think he is right?” Carlson asked.

The Fox News host went on to note that Sweden never did shut down its businesses and schools, and yet the country survived the great COVID pandemic. Somehow.

Also, he said several European countries have reopened their schools without significant spikes in coronavirus cases. That likely is because, as we’ve known now for months, COVID-19 does not afflict younger, healthy people nearly as much as it does older people, especially those with preexisting health problems.

“No one has explained why exactly schools specifically must stay closed. There’s a huge cost to that — massive. An entire generation of young people are not being educated because, let’s not lie to ourselves, they are not. And yet as of right now, very few people under 18 have been seriously hurt by the coronavirus,” Carlson said.

But when Fauci was asked about it, he didn’t really have an answer. He said that we aren’t yet sure that children are “completely immune to the virus.”

“Complete immunity?” Carlson said. “Since when is that a requirement?”

Kids aren’t completely immune to anything. And we never keep them out of school for months on end during the influenza season, yet influenza actually kills children. Coronavirus, so far, hasn’t.

That’s “not a talking point,” Carlson added. “It’s factually true. Look it up.”

Some lawmakers are finally beginning to ask Fauci some hard questions about all the shutdown advice he’s been given, including Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

“I don’t think you’re the end all. I don’t think you’re the one person that gets to make a decision,” Paul told Fauci during his testimony Tuesday.

“Tony Fauci has not been elected to anything. He has had the same job for nearly 40 years. That means the majority of American voters never even indirectly picked him for the role he has now. This is not the result of any kind of democratic process at work at all,” Carlson said. “In the last four months, Fauci has become one of the most powerful people in the world. And some, particularly in our media and in our Democratic establishment, are clamoring to give Dr. Fauci even more power. Why?”

And remember, just a few months ago, in January, Fauci was telling Americans coronavirus wasn’t a big deal.

“Some people seem to think he should be dictator for the duration of this crisis. That’s insanity,” Carlson said.
