On Wednesday afternoon, acting DNI Richard Grenell officially released the names of Obama administration officials who requested the unmasking of former national security advisor Michael Flynn.
The names include former Vice President Joe Biden, former FBI director James Comey, former CIA chief John Brennan and more.
Check out what Fox News reported:
Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell has released a list of names of Obama administration officials who purportedly requested to “unmask” the identity of Michael Flynn during the presidential transition period.
The list features top figures including then-Vice President Joe Biden, then-FBI Director James Comey and intelligence chiefs John Brennan and James Clapper. It also included Obama’s then-chief of staff.
“I declassified the enclosed document, which I am providing to you for your situational awareness,” Grenell wrote to GOP senators in sending along the list.
Shortly after the announcement was made, Republican Senator Rand Paul addressed the media as he spoke out about the recent revelations.
“Yesterday I sent a letter to Director of National Intelligence, Ric Grenell concerning declassification of which Obama administration officials asked to unmask General Flynn,” Paul started.
“Today I received the shocking answer that Vice President Biden and more than a dozen Obama administration officials requested and received the power to unmask General Flynn during his phone call with the Russian ambassador,” he said.
“The fact that Vice President Biden and all of the Presidents inner circle individually requested to unmask General Flynn is very troubling,” the Republican Senator continued.
“In addition to Vice President Biden, James Clapper, James Comey, John Brennan, Samantha Powers and the Presidents Chief of Staff all individually asked to unmask General Flynn and to listen to his phone conversation,” he said.
“Intriguingly a dozen more administration officials all chose to unmask general Flynn.”
Later on during his press conference, Paul was asked by a reporter: “Would you like to see criminal charges brought against [President Obama and VP Biden]?”
“I think we need to get to the bottom of this and the first thing is to interview under oath the Director of National Intelligence and what goes on with unmasking.”
He later added: “But this is troubling. Because this isn’t about national security. This is about eavesdropping on your opponent and eavesdropping on the new President’s top advisor. So this is very very troubling and this was being led at least by Vice President Biden if not the President [Obama].”
At one point, Paul even suggested that Biden was caught “red-handed.”
“Biden accessed the identity and the private conversation of a political opponent. There is no more clear violation of a politician using their office and abusing their office to go after a political opponent — and I think he’s caught red-handed here,” he said.
