American actor, producer cum musician, Johnny Depp regarded as one of the world’s biggest film stars is back as shifty pirate Jack Sparrow in the latest trailer for Disney’s upcoming high seas epic, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
The clip released on Sunday follows a new antagonist, the undead Capt. Salazar (Javier Bardem), as he leads a zombie army in search of Sparrow.
As ships fall to Salazar’s ghostly boat, including one helmed by returning series regular Capt. Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), a muddy Sparrow appears at the end and raises a bottle before proclaiming “a pirate’s life.”
The trailer also includes a small glimpse at a returning Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), now covered in barnacles following his death at the end of the third film, At World’s End.
“The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Capt. Jack feeling the winds of ill fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Capt. Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea — notably Jack,” reads the synopsis.
“Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Capt. Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has ever faced,” it continues.
Jonny has gained worldwide critical acclaim for his portrayals of such people as screenwriter-director Ed Wood in Ed Wood e.t.c.
Folowing his widespread fame, Depp has been nominated for major acting awards, including three nominations for Academy Award for Best Actor among others.
